Basilica of the Assumption
Located in Covington, Kentucky, is the St. Mary's Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption. Almost 100 years old, this church was designed as a smaller scale version of Notre Dame de Paris, notably without the towers. It does have the distinction of having the second largest stained glass window in the world, shown to the left. The project of building the church began in 1894 and ended in 1915, incomplete. It remains largely unfinished today but a visit inside one would not think of it being incomplete.
Below left, the organ's rear pipes. Below right, the nave looking toward the choir/alter. There are only four major basilicas in the world, all in Rome. The Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption is one of only 35 minor basilicas in the United States.
