Island living can be large islands such as Japan or small as is Guam. Hawaii is a collection of small islands none of which are as large as Japan. These islands are all born from volcanos.
A most famous volcano is Mt. Fuji on the main island of Japan just southwest of Tokyo. On a clear day Mt. Fuji, its height just over 12,000 feet, is visible from Tokyo. It is considered an active volcano. Keep in mind that Kilauea on the 'Big Island' of Hawaii has been erupting almost continuously since 1983!
